Marriage is one of the biggest commitments a couple can make—emotionally, legally, and practically. At MFS, we know that engaging in a premarital counseling program is a research-based way to set your relationship up for long-term success.

Whether you're engaged, recently married, or considering a long-term commitment, this structured and customized approach helps you explore key areas of your relationship, strengthen communication, and proactively address areas of potential growth.

Why Do Premarital Counseling?

Premarital counseling isn't just for identifying potential problems—it's about building a solid foundation before you step into married life. It gives you the space to:

  • Deepen your emotional connection
  • Learn practical relationship skills
  • Navigate sensitive conversations with care
  • Develop a shared vision for your future
  • Reduce the risk of long-term conflict and misunderstanding

Think of it as relationship coaching before the game begins.

Our Approach

At MFS, we generally use evidence-based approaches tailored to the unique couple for all of our relationship services. For premarital counseling, our relationship specialists typically use a PREPARE/ENRICH approach. PREPARE/ENRICH is one of the most widely used evidence-based premarital counseling tools available. It begins with an online assessment that each partner completes individually. The results generate a personalized profile of your relationship, highlighting both strengths and growth areas across topics like:

  • Communication and conflict resolution
  • Financial management
  • Personality dynamics
  • Roles and expectations
  • Intimacy and affection
  • Spiritual beliefs and values
  • Family background and parenting expectations

What to Expect

After completing the assessment, you'll meet with a trained PREPARE/ENRICH facilitator to explore your results in a supportive, structured way. You'll receive feedback, skill-building exercises, and guidance tailored to your relationship's unique dynamics.

Most couples complete 4 to 12 sessions, depending on their goals and the complexity of their needs.

Invest in Your Future Together

Taking time for premarital counseling is a powerful act of love, preparation, and intention. The PREPARE/ENRICH approach offers a guided, personalized roadmap to help you start your marriage with confidence and clarity.

Whether you're planning your wedding or just beginning to think about lifelong commitment, premarital counseling can help ensure you're not just ready for the big day—you're ready for the journey ahead.
